Identification and evaluation of antimicrobial resistance of enterococci isolated from raw ewes’ and cows’ milk collected in western Sicily: a preliminary investigation

The present work was carried out to investigate the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) of enterococci isolated from raw ewes’ and cows’ milk. samples were collected eighteen semi-extensive dairy sheep cow farms throughout western Sicily. Plate counts, on Rapid Enterococcus Agar commonly used detect food enterococci, revealed a maximal enterococcal concentration approximately 4.58 Log Colony Forming Unit (CFU)/mL. Colonies differentiated based genetic analysis by Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD)-PCR. Thirty-eight different strains identified. Analysis species-specific multiplex PCR assay grouped into three species such as durans, faecalis faecium. 38 also investigated for their antimicrobial resistance phenotypic approach. All displayed at least one or more antimicrobials tested confirmed that could be vector dissemination resistance. This showed with AMR traits are in semiextensive Sicily pointed relevance informing makers veterinary regarding use order mitigate problems public health medicine.
